Yes, by using batch mode all the time ;-)

Susan L. Graham had some nice papers about that problem.
But you always need a parse tree (which implies certain parser
states). Anyway ... the subject was researched a long time ago
(about 20 years) with some nice solutions and there is still
no real working implementation available.
Maybe the HARMONIA framework will be released soon, maybe not...
Just wondering that no one ever has really done the work in practice
and released it over this long time...
