Okay, now with caffine (and without ANTLR ;-)

I think the right answer is to replace one of the implementations with
an interface to the remaining "one true implementation".  This seems,
in the long run, to be the best possible solution, and eliminates the
need for dual maintenance.

Or is there something that didn't make it into your email (prototype
versus production versions)??
