[antlr-interest] Backtracking in Lexer broken?

I was wondering if the backtrack option in the lexer is supposed to work.

When I tried it on the example Wincent tried on thread

it only generated code fragments that I could not make any sense of.

Does it really work?

If not. Do I really need it? :)
