This is where I'd draw the line at accommodating users of open-source 
software.

I really don't believe it's the user's responsibility to create 
documentation (as I occasionally hear suggested, not necessarily on 
this project, when requests or demands for documentation are heard). 
Nor do I believe that users should be expected to read the source code 
and reverse engineer the unspecified details of its operations. And 
black-box experimentation to the same end is no better (perhaps worse).

However, I think users of open-source projects for which no licensing 
fees are required even for use in commercial applications should be 
willing to shell out a few tens of dollars for good documentation 
written by principals or others with deep, wide and accurate knowledge 
of the software they're using.

But them, I'm a sucker for books...
