Thanks Gavin!  That worked.

I've made a page in the StringTemplate Wiki called 'How to Allow
Double Angle Brackets as a String', so that others can benefit.  I
hope someone can put it in the right place.  It belongs in the
StringTemplate FAQ but I can't seem to move the page.  I'm somewhat
wiki-challenged.
