It's used to highlight the "current segment" of the path. If you  
click inside the syntax diagram you will then be able to use the  
cursor keys to move forward/back along the path. Very handy if the  
path is complicated and it would otherwise be hard to see where the  
path goes. You may need to temporarily uncheck the checkboxes for the  
other alternatives so that ANTLRWorks knows which of the paths you're  
interested in cycling through with the cursor keys.
