You should also be looking at http://www.parrot.org/ which is all about what 
you're speaking of, supporting projects with components written in multiple 
programming languages, both general-purpose and domain-specific.  I didn't see 
them on the list of groups, and Parrot is a solid decade old. -- Darren Duncan
